Dial-up settings are pretty much default,but a couple of points to be sure of are
Logon to network should not be checked, this takes twice as long.
you need a dial-up adapter in the network settings + TCP/IP protocol
TCP/IP settings set to DHCP should be dotted or checked, you should not have to specify DNS seach order, gateway or static IP
if you have trouble with call waiting *70 before your dial-up number is better than counting on windows to follow through with the setting to auto
block call waiting
and finally a good non-win modem will smoke a win type modem every time has it’s own chip onboard does not borrow from main
